Astros pitcher Hunter Brown among minor league award winners. A member of the Houston Astros’ World Series title run has added some more hardware to his resume.
As a result of his efforts with the Astros’ Triple-A club Sugar Land Space Cowboys, pitcher Hunter Brown has been awarded the Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Year, Minor League Baseball announced this week. League managers voted for the winner to receive the award.
With the Space Cowboys this season, Brown, the top Astros prospect according to MLB rankings, recorded a 2.55 ERA and a career-high 134 strikeouts in 106 innings. Additionally, he had a 9-4 record while only allowing opponents to hit.189 off of him.
On September 5 against the Texas Rangers, the 24-year-old made his MLB debut for Houston, pitching six scoreless innings while striking out five and allowing only three hits. He pitched in seven games with the Astros during the regular season, pitching in two starts and five relief appearances while going 2-0 with a 0.89 ERA. In three relief appearances during the 2022 postseason, he gave up only two hits and no runs over 3 2/3 innings.
Two other players also represented the Astros in Tuesday’s Pacific Coast League honors.
David Hensley, another member of Houston’s World Series roster, was named to the league’s All-Star team at shortstop after posting a .298/.420/.478 slash line with 10 home runs, 57 RBI and 80 runs scored in 104 games in Sugar Land. Enoli Paredes, who went 5-4 with a 2.63 ERA and 81 strikeouts in 54 2/3 innings at Triple-A, made the list as a relief pitcher.
